Not Exactly Timely

Treading the corridors of Clementi Mall this afternoon I couldn't help but notice that the check-out girls at the supermarket downstairs were wearing silly little Santa hats. In November, for goodness' sake. And we're not even close to the end of the month.

Says I, to the Missus, Why are the check-out girls wearing little Santa hats when it's the 22 of November?

This is Singapore, she sagely replies.

You should come to the Philippines one day, Sir. Christmas starts here during the "ber" months.

It's rather amusing when the cashiers wear hats with reindeer antlers in October because they're good for Halloween too.

It's even worse in Britain, to be fair. Mince pies started being sold at the start of November, and they're all going to expire long before Christmas.

Well, that's it then - globalisation is clearly to blame.

Nice to hear from you, Carmen. Are you back in the Philippines? Must say, I like the idea of the reindeer antler hats. A step up from the silly Santa variety.

Yes, Sir. Here for a gap year and I'll be back in Singapore next year.

As for the hats, I think so too, Sir :D

Glad you agree with me, Carmen. Always wise to do so, eh?

Hope you are spending your gap year wisely and not frittering it away on frivolous pursuits like enjoying yourself and having some kind of reasonable life.
